HI Casey

I am not sure Kyoto is the answer either. It is about 70% short of the Emissions required to make it work so it will be an interesting year to see if the world has the guts to push on environmental issues during this crisis.

Lets see what President Obama is going to do?

Dear Mr Peters,

Interesting comments you have made in respect of sustainable issues with Mother Earth. While I may not totally believe in the viability of the Kyoto Protocols and even despise the hype around the carbon trading, I am definitely in support of stringent fiscal reforms related to sustainable development. Further to your comments in Rule 2 of your article, I like to add that education and communications are the keys to getting the message of a sustainable future down to the grassroots.

My experience in working with the agronomic sector in China has led me to confirm that the motivation towards any reuse & recycling efforts is fundamentally driven by financial impact. Recently sanctioned govt subsidies (5 billion rmb) has led to the current huge drive in circular economy projects in the agricultural sector, particularly in the provinces of Hunan, Xinjiang, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Heilongjiang and Shaanxi. To these folks, there's no need for any understanding of Kyoto, carbon trading or CO2e. To a local farmer, all he needs to know is "how much can I get for these waste". Imagine the look on my face when a farm commune operator rejected my offer to "buy" pig manure slurry from him at 100rmb/ton, whereas the asking price was a mere 50rmb 2 years ago. Despite the financial motivation behind all these, I am happy to note the marked progress in renewable energy implementations in rural China over the last 18 months and wish that someday China would surpass Germany in its use and production of clean, renewable fuel.

I congratulate you on your efforts in launching this blog. Let's keep it going for a greener tomorrow!

Best regards,
